How to Handle Your Period

Okay. So first I'd like to say thank you to Gdrums on YouTube who requested this blog!

Second, I'm in no way a professional in this field, and any tips in this blog are strictly from personal experience, and results may vary from person to person!

What is your Period (menstruation)?

The dictionary defines your menstrual cycle as; The recurring monthly series of physiological changes in women and other female primates in which an egg is produced in the process known as ovulation, and the uterine lining thickens to allow for implantation if fertilization occurs. If the egg is not fertilized, the lining of the uterus breaks down and is discharged during menstruation.

Your period ones about once every month and lasts until menopause.

Symptoms

Everyones symptoms of menstruation will be different, however most symptoms consist of cramping, nausea, tender breasts, bloating, and also PMS.

PMS (premenstrual syndrome)

Well as you probably know, girls can get quite moody around "that time of the month". PMS is normal, however it doesn't give you the right to be nasty to anyone. There are herbal supplements that can help balance out your hormones, if necessary.

Oopsies!

Taking blood an dried blood out of cloth can be difficult. First, try using cold water. If that doesn't work, hydrogen peroxide should do the trick.

When Should I Expect my First Period?

Most girls get their periods from the ages 10-12.

Keeping Track Of Your Friend's Visits.

Downloading a period tracker app is a great way to not only calculate your periods arrival, but also your ovulation. You can also put marks on a calendar to keep track. Put a mark on the first day of your period, and the first day of your next period. Count the days. That should be your approximate cycle length.

I Missed My Period!

Missing your period can be a scary thing. If you haven't had your period for two years consistently, there's nothing to worry about. However, if you'd had you period consistently for MORE than two years, the loss of it could be caused by one of the possibilities below.

1) Your pregnant.
if you haven't had sex since you last period, rule this possibility out!

2) you've lost/gained weight suddenly.

3) too much exercise.

4) Stress.

But if none of these apply, don't worry! You don't have to worry until you've missed multiple periods in a row. Then you should see your doctor.

Looking Back At My First Period!

Well it all begins with... My birth! I was born, then eleven years went by. So in the summer of sixth grade, on a Tuesday, my mother invited her friends and their children to come over to our house to swim. We all were having a blast! Then I had to pee. I walked casually to the toilet, and lo and behold, my swimsuit was sprinkled with blood. Since my parents had been relatively open on this subject, I immediately knew what was happening. However, when I tried to tell her, she ignored me because she was too busy talking to her friends! Eventually though, I told her and she helped me with pads and such.

Feminine Products I Use/Recommend!

When it comes to pads, I tend to pick the ones with the wings, which helps hold it in place. I generally go with the least costly brand. I do however like the Always brand. As for tampons, I've actually never used one. I've never had the need to. But, I wanna try the Tampax Pearl, because I've heard good things about them!

Sleeping With Your Period

When I'm on my period, I hate going to sleep, because I'm always afraid that the bed will be stained when I awake. Although you can never be 100% sure of no staining, you can do your best to prevent it. Wearing a tight pair of shorts under your pants will not only hold your underwear in place, but also absorb any leaking blood. One thing my mother does is wearing a tampon, a pad and shorts to sleep.

Tips!

I minimize period cramps by limiting my intake of animal products! It works amazingly!

Again, I just wanted to say thank you to GDrums! I hope this better fulfilled your request!

  1. Do you prefer the maxi or ultra thin always pads, or both? Have you tried the thicker kotex or stayfree pads? If so, would they work well for a heavy flow?

    1. Hi!
I personally prefer the ultra thin pads for daytime wear, (as they're more comfortable) but prefer the maxi pads for overnight use.

The only time I've ever worn a thicker pad was a day when I for my "friend" unexpectantly. It was from a vending machine, and it was so uncomfortable.

If you're having trouble with "accidents", you can do what my mom does! Try wearing a tampon, and a pad at the same time! This will ensure no leakage. It's great for her heavy flow.

      Hope this helps,
      Rachel XOXO
