I know eating healthfully during the holidays can be hard. Really, really hard. With all of the temptation of pies, cakes, and cookies. Even white potatoes, greasy turkey, and crescent rolls aren't so healthy. Here is a guide for NOT putting on those extra pounds this holiday season!
1) Don't overeat!
In my family, the motto is, "On Thanksgiving, you eat until you can't (eat), then eat some more!". Although it is a "once a year" overeating, it is still overeating. It stretches your stomach, and makes you feel awful. It is BAD for you.
2) Eat the veggies first.
No, potatoes don't count, unless they're sweet potatoes, and they're made without sugar. Try to stick to steamed veggies, or at least ones that aren't oil coated.
3) Try to veer away from oil, salt, and milk products
Anything shiny, white, or super sweet, isn't good for you. Try to et steamed vegetables. Instead of turkey, try steamed fish! It's more accurate to the first Thanksgiving anyway! Salt is proven to raise blood pressure! Any butter? Nope. Try to avoid it!
4) Desserts.
Try to eat fruit as your dessert instead of the sugar loaded pie. You can make pie without the sugar! Just crumble oats and nuts over apple and cinnamon! It's healthy, and delicious!
5) It's once a year.
Maybe you deserve a break. Eat a little butter, or white flour or that apple pie. Just remember, it takes about two months to clear out the taste. In other words, you must be salt, sugar, white flour, and butter free for two months until you stop craving it.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! XO
